Passing on a lesson in giving
Though Penny Arleth no longer lives at Aeon’s East Village in Minneapolis, her experience there has inspired her to give back.
“Nearly five years ago I was in need of an affordable place to live—a place to provide shelter and a place to give me a sense of security,” Penny says. “At Aeon’s East Village, I found not only a home, but a new family.”
After she moved out, the self-described “creative and out-of-the-box thinker” volunteered to start an after-school art program for the children at East Village.
“I have learned so much from Aeon about helping others that I have begun to give back to the community myself,” Penny says.
It’s a lesson Penny has tried to pass on to the children.
“One of the activities that the kids in this program were involved with was making purses to raise money for Haiti. The idea here was to not only teach the kids life skills, but also to pursue the same idea that Aeon has of giving back and helping others in need.”
